FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS - Botox®

Does The Treatment Hurt?

At Enhanced, we specialise in pain-free treatment, offering nerve blocks, local anaesthetics and numbing cream. Please note that everyone is different in their efficacy of local aesthetic cream. You should declare any prior allergy to local aesthetics, although this is extremely rare.

Nerve blocks are tiny injections made to the gum area inside the mouth. This will numb the lips and the surrounding skin making the procedure infinitely better to have fillers around the area. The injection site can be pre-treated with cotton buds soaked in local aesthetics so you won’t feel the local injections. This ensure the whole treatment is pain-free.

The dose of local aesthetics used are a fraction of those used in other medical fields, hence this is a very safe method of ensuring a pain-free treatment.

How Long Does The Effect Last?

The procedure takes around 30-45 minutes and patients can expect to notice effects for as long as 18 months after treatment. There is even precedence of results lasting up to 24 months in some cases. The time is dependent on how much filler is administered, where in the face you are having treatment and your skin.

Am I A Suitable Candidate?

Facial fillers can be used on a wide range of clients, and is primarily used for skin rejuvenation and the reduction of lines and wrinkles, to add structure and volume to the face. In some cases, it can also be used to treat scarring.

Patients must be aged 18 or over. Those who have medical conditions that can affect safety, such as damaged nerves or muscle complaints, should disclose this information during the consultation to avoid any complications.

Anyone on immunosuppressive drugs may have slightly higher complication rates but may still be suitable. Ongoing active infections such as cold sores around the lip and facial infections should not have treatment and should wait until it is resolved.

Treatment is not advisable for those who are pregnant or breastfeeding. While there are no clinical studies to show that the procedure is harmful to the mother or baby, we advise against having treatments under these circumstances.

What Areas Can Be Treated?

Lips

Thin lipscan be a source of concern for many, especially now, as many celebrities are favouring larger lips. There are many factors that can influence the size of lips, the most obvious being genetics.

As we age, the definition of the lip border's becomes faded. Fillers can enhance the vermillion border (the line where the pink of the lips meet the skin), the philtrum (the two columns of skin just below the nostril) and the cupid's bow. This is known as lip enhancement.

Lip Enhancement with Dermal Fillers is becoming one of the most popular treatment in non-surgical Aesthetic Enhancement. Fillers can be manipulated in many ways to enhance or augment the lips.

Lip augmentation is where fillers are used to change the shape of the lip itself to enhance volume and structure to the lips. This may be desirable to many clients depending on their opinion and their aesthetic objectives.

Augmentation may require 2-3 sessions to ensure the best result. As always with non-surgical aesthetics, slow changes are better than dramatic profound alterations, as it allows the soft tissue to settle and adapt to the enhancement.

Nasolabial Fold

The nasolabial fold is also known as smile lines. You have one on each side of the face and it runs from the most outer and lower part of the nose to the corner of the mouth. As we age, we lose volume to the cheek and the fat pads around the area and our skin becomes thinner. As a result these folds can be exaggerated and are often associated with ageing as they get deeper.

Dermal fillers are an effective means to replace volume to the areas and make the fold less prominent. This can often create a smoother transition from the cheek to the mouth, enhancing the overall look of the aesthetic appearance of the client. Commonly, only a small amount of filler is required, and if more is needed it can be built up over weeks.

Marionette Lines

Marionette lines are the lines that extends from the corner of your mouth downwards to the lower parts of the jaw. These lines tend to exaggerate as we age. Some individuals will have deeper and more pronounce lines at a younger age depending on lifestyle factors and genetics.

Doctors can use filler injection to correct the imbalance that occur on either side of the line. Correcting this region can often improve the shape of the mouth rendering a more up slope vector at the corner of the mouth projecting a happier appearance.

Cheeks

If you desire cheeks with more volume and lift, Dermal Fillers could be the ideal solution. Fast and effective, this treatment enables specific parts of the face to be lifted, shaped and enhanced, all whilst being minimally invasive and safe.

As the ageing process takes hold, it is common for skin under the chin to sag, creating the unsightly appearance for a “double chin”. Dermal Fillers can be used to reshape or add volume to the chin area. Fillers can also be effectively used to smooth out creases on the chin (burn creases) or in between the lower lip and the chin.

How Long Is Recovery Time?

You do not usually need to allow for any recovery time following treatment. The results from most Dermal Filler treatments can be seen straight away, however if there is any slight swelling it may take a couple of days to ease before the full results start to show.

Results usually last for around 9-12 months, depending on the area being treated, the dosage and your skin.

Dr Tong will discuss any individual post-treatment or recovery requirements with you if required.

Please note that recovery from any treatment is unique to each client and is something that will be discussed in detail with Dr Tong.

What, If Any Are the Side Effects?

With any filler treatment, there can be some slight bruising or swelling that accompanies it. This should not persist much longer than a day, and is easily covered up with makeup.

How Do Dermal Fillers Work? How Are They Different From Botox®?
