THE TREATMENT PROCESS

The Obagi TCA Peel follows a comprehensive step-by-step process to rejuvenate and enhance the skin:

1. Consultation:

During your consultation with Natalie, your skin concerns, goals, and medical history will be discussed to determine if the treatment is suitable for you.

2. Preparation:

The treatment area is cleansed to remove any makeup, oils, or debris. Protective measures, such as the application of a barrier cream, may be taken to shield sensitive areas.

3. Application:

The peel is applied to the skin evenly and you will experience a slight stinging and burning sensations which may last 3-5 minutes. The peel is applied layer-by-layer, with 2-3 minutes between each application. This controlled exfoliation process gently removes dead skin cells, stimulates collagen production, and encourages the growth of healthier, younger looking skin.

4. Peeling Process:

Over the next few days, the peel stimulates exfoliation and peeling of the outermost layer of the skin. This process helps reveal fresher, smoother skin underneath.

5. Post-Treatment Care:

Following the peel, specific post-treatment instructions are provided, including the use of gentle skincare products, sun protection, and avoiding excessive sun exposure.

6. Recovery:

The recovery period varies for each individual but generally involves mild redness and peeling as the skin undergoes renewal. This typically lasts between 7-10 days.

7. Results:

As the skin heals, clients will experience improved texture, reduced blemishes, and a revitalised complexion.

It's essential to undergo Obagi TCA Peel under the supervision of a qualified skincare professional to ensure safety and effectiveness tailored to individual skin needs.

It's important to have the treatment performed by a trained and experienced professional to ensure safety and efficacy. If you have any concerns or questions about the procedure, discussing them with your practitioner during the consultation is advisable.

Following post-care instructions is crucial for achieving optimum results.

POST-TREATMENT ADVICE & RECOVERY TIME

It is very important you follow the post treatment care advice carefully to help make the results as successful as possible and to reduce the risk of complications.

Post-treatment advice includes:

  • Avoid direct sun exposure and sunbeds as this may not allow the skin to heal properly and may cause post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation

  • A sun protection product with an SPF of at least 30 should be worn at all times. -Facial products containing fragrance should be avoided for 3-5 days as they may irritate the skin

  • Do not use exfoliating agents such as AHAs, BHAs, retinoids, retinols, and exfoliating scrubs for 5-7 days

  • Return to normal skin care regime after 7 days

  • No laser hair removal, facial waxing or dermal filler procedures to be carried out for 2 weeks

  • Following the peel, skin may be slightly dry and red for 1-2 days. Mild 'breadcrumb peeling' may occur 3 days post peel and can last up to 5 days. Do not speed the peeling process up with any sort of physical exfoliation. A mild moisturiser may be used to minimise dryness and redness.

Recovery time:

1-2 days: Skin may feel tight, dry and you may experience some redness

3-12 days: Extensive peeling (see below)

Please note:

5-7 days peeling if your skin is well-prepared and using the Nu Derm system effectively

Up to 12 days if your skin is not well-prepared and using the the Nu Derm system intermittently

Obagi TCA Peel FAQs

Q: What is an Obagi TCA Peel?

A: TCA (Trichloroacetic Acid) peels, in general, are a type of chemical peel used for skin rejuvenation. They involve the application of trichloroacetic acid to the skin, causing controlled exfoliation and peeling. TCA peels can address various skin concerns, including fine lines, sun damage, and uneven skin tone.

Q: What are the active ingredients in Obagi TCA Peel?

A: The active ingredients in Obagi Blue Peel are mainly trichloroacetic acid (TCA) known to improve the skin by removing discolouration, spots, and wrinkles. TCA is used in different proportions depending on our evaluation of your skin. The active ingredients are mixed with a proprietary blue base that gives a bluish tint to the skin to allow Natalie to see exactly where the peel has been applied.

Q: How many treatments will I need?

A: Usually, just one treatment is advised, however sometimes multiple peels are recommended for optimal results.

Q: Do I need to prepare my skin before having this treatment?

A: Yes. You will need to use the Obagi Nu Derm system prior to your peel. Natalie will be able to talk you through what is required at your (free) consultation.

You will need to stop using any active skincare products, e.g. containing retinol, glycolic, other AHA’s or bleaching products, for 3 days prior to your peel.

It is recommended that you have not had sunbed treatment or experienced sunburn or any other form of burn to the face in the 2 weeks prior to your peel.

Q: Do I need to use aftercare products?

A: Following the procedure, it is recommended that you use SPF 30 or higher sun protection.  Slight swelling may appear following your treatment, and your skin will peel for several days, revealing fresh new skin. You will be fully healed in approximately seven to 10 days.

Q: Are there any side effects?

A: Depending on your skin type and home care regimen, a skin peel may cause increased sensitivity.

Side effects may include (but aren’t limited to): stinging, itching, irritation, redness, swelling, tightness, peeling and scabbing of the skin, scarring, post inflammatory hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation.

Natalie will advise you to ensure that you minimise any discomfort or side effects.
